⭐ Growing, learning and discovering ⭐
The following weeks have been an incredible journey of development.
From those first tentative steps around the whelping box, their eyes and ears opening, tiny purposeful growls and puppy piles, we watched six little personalities begin to emerge.
Their days soon became filled with:
- Early Neurological Stimulation and early scent experiences
- Sound desensitisation and exposure to everyday noises
- Puppy-pad toilet training
- Introduction to soft puppy food and eventually dry kibble
- Regular nail trims, worming and weight checks
- Individual handling, cuddles and human interaction
- New textures, smells and environments
- Puppy-safe enrichment toys
- Outdoor exploration
- Interaction with their siblings and carefully supervised introductions with Aunty Eden
- Experiences designed to build confidence, curiosity and resilience
They discovered that toys could be climbed on, pushed, chewed and investigated—and their swing quickly became a firm favourite!
They conquered their ball pit, steps and slide, explored grass and dirt, discovered that digging was great fun, and investigated the many everyday sights and sounds around them.
They even experienced their first rain shower!
🐾 From puppy pile to little Labradors 🐾
As the weeks passed, the RockStars became increasingly independent.
Their whelping box gradually became their toilet area, while their larger spaces became places for sleeping, playing and exploring. Their outdoor areas expanded as their legs and confidence grew.
Their routine became a wonderful cycle of:
Eat • Toilet • Play • Explore • Learn • Sleep • Repeat
And through it all, Penne continued to be an exceptional mum.
She gradually began the natural weaning process while still allowing her puppies their favourite visits to the milk bar. Her patience and devotion to her babies have been remarkable.
🖤💛 Six individual RockStars
By six weeks, these puppies were certainly no longer tiny babies!
They were confident, playful, curious young Labradors with individual personalities beginning to shine through. We watched their structure, movement, temperament and development closely as we considered which puppy would remain at Mahelu to potentially contribute to our future breeding program.
Their beautiful heads, dense double coats, strong otter tails, substance, balance and developing front and rear angulation have been a joy to watch.
And then came their six-week veterinary visit.
Their first road trip, first veterinary examination, first vaccinations, microchips and DNA parentage swabs were all part of one very big day. They took almost everything in their stride—although that big microchip needle did produce a few little yelps!
⭐ Where are they heading? ⭐
At just over six weeks, their future homes are beginning to take shape.
Two RockStars will be heading to Townsville, two will be heading north to the Cairns region, one will be travelling west to Mount Isa, and one will remain here at Forrest Beach for a little while as we continue to assess development and suitability for our future breeding program.

Their families may give them their own everyday call names, but they will always be part of our Mahelu RockStar litter.
💛 The journey continues
As we look back over these first six weeks, we are incredibly proud of how far these puppies have come.
From a difficult beginning to six confident, happy and beautifully developing young Labradors, this litter has reminded us once again that breeding is about so much more than producing puppies.
It is about dedication, vigilance, learning, enrichment, careful planning, veterinary support, sleepless nights, countless cuddles—and cherishing every single life entrusted to us.
We have watched these six little RockStars grow, learn, explore, play and discover the world around them.
Soon they will leave their Mahelu home and begin the next chapter of their lives with their new families.
But they will always be our RockStars. ⭐
